colonel owen cousins is a classic peony introduced in 1972. it has large, double blooms in creamy white with a soft hint of salmon near the base of the petals. flowers reach 8–10″ across and have a light, pleasant fragrance. blooming in late spring on 30–33″ stems, it’s hardy in zones 3–8 and makes a great choice for cut flowers.

colonel owen cousins is sold as one root with 3-5 eyes.

fall planting instructions: 

1. choose an area with at least 6 hours of sunlight with soil that has good drainage.

2. dig a hole 12-18” deep. mix soil with an all-purpose fertilizer. add the amended and loosened soil back into the hole.

3. place peony roots 2-3” under the soil line with eyes facing upward, and then gently pack the soil over the roots.

4. water well.
